Do carrots really help you see in the dark?

This is a question I have heard often and I really think that there is some reason that they do, but for the life of me I cannot remember what it is. Now my little nephew has asked me and I would like to give him an accurate answer, so an anyone help please?

Sorry Sammy but I don't think they do. Carrots do contain vitamin A which is good for keeping your eyes healthy but so do a lot of other things like cheese and eggs.

I agree with Row27. Carrots contain beta-carotene, which the body is able to convert into vitamin A , an essential vitamin for healthy vision. So eating them can help maintain our eyesight, but definitely it will not help us see in the dark.
