    bodybuilding

Does anyone here do any body building ? Im thinking about starting to boost my muscles (not too much, just a little) but dont really know where to start - I do some strength training just now, but only very little and was wondering if you have any tips for me as a beginner.

start slowly - If you already do strength training then you have made a start - the only good way to build uscle mass is to do a lownumber of reps of a higher weight than you would usually do - if you normally do 50 reps of a weight that you are comfortable with then that will give you lots of muscle tone, but no extra mass - try going up a weight or two and dropping to 15 or 20 reps - after a few days you will start to notice your muscles getting bigger =)

Don't you have to consume that special protein powder to help build muscle? I remember seeing it sold in huge tubs in my local health food store. They also sold protein bars and shakes especially for body builders. It all seems very specialised and expensive.

I don't know a lot about body building but enough to know there are risks involved just like with any other exercise. I agree that you need to start very slowly to make sure you're not forcing your body to do something it's not capable of. The risk of injury is high for bodybuilders isn't it? Take care of your muscles and be careful!

You do not need protein powders or supplements to build muscle.  Generally people who use those are trying to build huge amounts of muscle faster than normal and that is not necessary nor even truly desirable.  Eat a normal healthy and balanced diet and you will be fine.

I like a good firm body on a guy but I hate the huge bulging muscles on professional body builders. I'm sorry but they don't even look healthy to me. So, Atlas, don't go too far will you?

    Re: bodybuilding

I have done a little body building in the past.  I was pretty big years ago, well I guess that I still am, but the size is not muscle any more.  I am working on getting rid of the extra fat first, then maybe I will work on toning my muscles.

I have more issues with toning. I've lost weight, but now I have flabby skin on my upper arms and stomach. How do I tone these up so they're firm and not flabby without bulking up like a muscle-man?

It would be best if you get a complete physical check-up before beginning a bodybuilding program. You must make sure  you don't have health problem that could make exercise dangerous for you. For a beginner like you make a routine that consists of squats, chin-ups, bench presses, etc. Also, don't forget to begin with a good diet.
