    Morning or Evening?

What time of day is better for working out?  I've heard that it's better to get up early in the morning and get in a half hour of cardio, but I don't usually have a lot of energy until the late afternoon or evening.  Does it matter what time I work out?

I would say morning is best. It helps jump start you metabolism for the day which allows you to burn more calories over a longer period of time. Plus later in the day you may be tired from whatever you've been doing earlier and you may not have the energy to sustain a workout.

It feels good when you workout in the morning - it sets you up for the rest of the day, though its very hard to start working out first thin, but after a week you will get used to it.

It's often a matter of convenience. When I was a member of a gym I could only fit in the time in the evening after work, which is better than not at all. I suppose it also depends on the type of exercise you do and how sweaty etc you are likely to get, so you have to have time for a shower also if you do it before you go to work.

I have to excercise in the evenings, unless I have a day off work, then I can do it in the afternoon. I'm not sure if I could excercise first thing in the morning - though I'm sure that if I gave it a shot that I would adapt to it after a couple of days - its the adapting part that feels the hardest, once you have adapted then it starts to feel normal.

I've worked out at all different times throughout the day and I think the early mornings work best for me. I feel so pumped and motivated after I work out and that makes the rest of my day go well. Once the adrenaline gets pumping I feel so much better about myself.

Most of my exercise is swimming due to my bad knees and I like to take my son with me, so it depends on when the mixed family swim sessions are going on at our leisure centre. It works for me though because they are usually at the same time on a certain day during the week and a different time at the weekend. so we usually manage a couple of sessions a week, once in the evening and once in the morning.

I'm one of those annoying people who can wake up in the morning with a smile on my face so I usually try to work out first thing, unless I've got an early meeting to attend.  I think I feel better all day long when I've started out my day the right way.  It's like it sets the tone of the day or something.

Overeater, I saw in another thread that you got in a workout this morning and now you feel all pumped up.  I'll bet your workout has something to do with it.

Working out in the evening can keep you up so I don't recommend exercising too close to your normal bedtime.  I am not one to get up and be all sunshiney first thing, either so I tend to exercise at odd times - either partway through the day when my schedule permits or right after work.  That way it doesn't interfere with my sleep patterns.

Working out in the evening is the only way I get a good night sleep. When I work out a couple of hours before bed, my brain is asleep before my head hits the pillow. I guess its the endorphins or something, because a morning work out just doesn't cut it.

I tend to exercise in the early evening. I walk my dogs regularly every evening - rain or shine - but I'll then come home, put the dogs away and go to my yoga class twice a week. I simply don't have time in the mornings.

I always wake up early and I'm happy about it, definitely I'm a morning person like Motivator. It makes perfect sense that the best time for me to exercise is in the morning. My muscles tend to be stiffer in the mornings so I make sure to start my workout slowly.
