Hot or Cold Weather, which is best for exercise?

Is it best to exercise in hot weather or cold?

I have tried both and both have their up and downside. When it is especially cold in Winter, I hate stripping off to exercise but keeping clothes on can hinder anything you try to do. On the other hand, once you have warmed up, it does feel good. In the Summer when it is very hot I get sweaty and tired too quickly then I have to stop. I also have to take in a lot more water so I have to stop more often. On the other hand, I can strip off to begin with and I can exercise on the beach and in the sea, which feels good.

    I prefer the latter!

I don't think it really matters.  Both have their good points and bad points.  The main thing is to exercise every day or at least several time weekly no matter what the season is.  In the summer, you can always go first thing in the morning or later in the evening to avoid the most of the heat.  In winter, I tend to exercise indoors instead as I hate the cold.

I don't like exercising in the cold.  It always makes me think of elementary school when they'd make us run outside.  I never liked the way my chest would burn when I got out of breath.

While I'm no fan of close weather, I think it's easier to work out in than hot weather.  I live in Texas and over the summer, it's not only uncomfortable to work out, it's dangerous.  People have to work out indoors or make sure to stay VERY hydrated if they're outside.

Oh, by the way, Nikki, I hated running outside in the cold, too!  Wink

I dont mind, as long as there is no rain!! rain is the worst offender by a long shot - cycling in the rain is very bad - you end up soaked !! cold weather is good, as long as its clear, as with hot weather. the only advantage of hot weather is that you dont need to wear lots of clothing, but you do need to drink more water.

cold weather for me, as long as it is dry then it means that I can keep going for longer, I also tend to find that you need less water to keep going - so that litre of water that you have in your bottle is going to last for a longer workout than when its a hot day!!

Since most of my exercise is swimming, of course I prefer hot weather but I can see where you would like it colder if tou were working up a sweat.

I like walking to work when it's cold, like this morning I walked briskly with no problem. I actually walked faster. When it's pretty warm, I really feel hot I get really uncomfortable and I'm ready to pass out.
